Is it me or is Hopstop almost always wrong? They once sent me to a place where a subway station didn’t exist and told me today that it’d only take me 50 minutes to get to Harlem when in actual fact it took almost an hour and a half …

Many people have asked me where I find my photographers and what they should do to get into modeling. Now that I have a blog I can finally give you some pointers. It goes without saying … if you’re serious about modeling, then sign with an agency … if you want to become an internet model (like me), then this would be my best advice :
1) Don’t expect paid work, expect to pay people – I’ve modeled for a while now and have done numerous photo shoots over the last two years. Though I haven’t paid to work with many photographers I have paid to work with amazing make up artists. I NEVER shoot without my make up artist and will never do a shoot without a make up artist.
2) Find credible photographers - I find all my models, make up artists, hairstylists and photographers through¬†Model Mayhem. Create a profile there and start networking! Remember that this is the internet … ¬†there are a lot of shady people out there (GWCs = Guy With Camera) so only do what you’re comfortable with and work with a photographer that has a list of credentials (i.e. a list of people they’ve worked with before). I always try and avoid photographers without this… remember it’s the internet, anyone can upload a picture!
3) Keep it professional - After you’ve created a profile on a site like Model Mayhem, keep your page professional. Don’t post pictures of you and your boyfriend/girlfriend making out or you out with your friends. Dun rite lyk this either. A couple interesting facts are always fun but write only what needs to be said and not a word more.
4) Don’t post your phone number on your page! - I’ve seen this done so many times! Unless you want a ton of prank calls, don’t do this.
5) Never do anything you’re not comfortable with – Always use your own judgement. Working with someone new can be awkward … if you’re a new model and not comfortable with going to a shoot alone, find a photographer that allows escorts because if you’re not comfortable, it’ll show. Think long term … make friends with make up artists and hairstylists
