Today I found out that the most common causes for shin splints is over running and/or wearing the wrong kind of footwear. Because I like to wear heels every day … I gave myself the splints! Not life threatening but still painful.

The problem is when you wear heels religiously like me (and by heels I mean shoes with at least a 3″ heel height), because when you wear heels on an everyday basis you essentially keep your calf muscles in a tensed (?) unnatural state for long periods of time. Wearing them every day can lead to long term problems like shin splints. If you want to avoid it, stretch your calf muscles every day. Trust me, the chiropractic treatment HURTS! I was in soo much pain I started tearing near the end of my sesh haha.
Shin splints aren’t caused by just wearing heels though … the sad thing is it’s also because of all these new trendy footwear that don’t really have much foot support. I’ve already thrown out my Minnetonka Moccassins and vow to never buy cheap crap trendy shoes again !!! It’s a slippery slope when everything is bad for you … did you hear that new report on how flip flops can kill you?
